First, you may choose one of threeimages that you can view in person, at the Boston University Art Gallery, 855Commonwealth Avenue. The photographs are from an exhibit featuring artists from arange of backgrounds who make work addressing contemporary issues from globalwealth inequality to experiences of exile and diaspora. Your second option is to visitBostons Institute of Contemporary Art and choose a photograph from the currentexhibit featuring the work of photographer Deana Lawson. Lawson uses medium andlarge format cameras to make portraits that emphasize the personal and the powerful inBlack life. The ICA is accessible from the Courthouse stop on the Silver Line. Admissionis free with a BU ID, but advanced ticketing is recommended as timed tickets arerequired for entry. Your third option is to pick one of the 17 images that are Museum ofFine Art images, available to view online through the links below.Examine the original print at the BU Art Gallery, the ICA, or the MFA high-resolutionimage of the photograph at length. Analyze it formally and carefully, using yourchosen method. At the end of your paper, briefly suggest further directions forresearch, if you were to extend this project to a research paper.
