Analyzing Research On Assessment
In Part 1 of this assignment, you will develop a case study illustrating best practice application of an assessment/measurement instrument used for early childhood participants.
In preparation for evaluation of the instrument in Module 2, you will select and describe a child who will serve as a target participant and a single published instrument of assessment or measurement appropriate to young children, including the target participant. The instrument should be specifically intended for one developmental level and topic area (for example, toddler and cognitive development).
Then you will locate, summarize, and compare the major points of at least three professional journal articles published in the last five years related to the assessment/measurement instrument or facets of the instrument.
· Create a 3- to 5-page paper (not including the title and references pages) in a Word document for your response.
· Use APA format for the title page, references page, and in-text citations. Use the part titles as subheadings.
· Develop an introduction and conclusion for the paper.
Part 1: Participant and Instrument Selection
Step 1. Select Select a child (preferably a pre-k student) who will serve as the target participant in the case study. Refer to the child by initial rather than name; for example, R instead of Robert or Child 1.
Step 2. Develop Develop a profile of the participant. Include the child’s demographic, personal/home, and educational information.
Step 3. Choose Choose a single published instrument of assessment/measurement appropriate to young children, including the target participant. The instrument should be for specific age group and developmental levels, such as toddler and cognitive development. Relate the target participant and your choice of the assessment/measurement instrument.
See the Module 1 Learning Object for resources and examples of published assessment/measurement instruments.
Part 2: Article Summary and Comparison
Step 4. Compare Compare the major points of at least three professional journal articles published in the last five years related to the assessment/measurement instrument or facets of the assessment/measurement you will use with the target participant in your case study.
In Module 1, you’re going to choose a child to base your study on. You are going to use the same child for Modules 1 through 3. Say you have a student that has some social emotional issues. You need to choose a published assessment (one from the learning objects or one that your school might use as a basis for finding out about services). In this module, you’re going to describe the child, the instrument, and find at least three journal articles that talk about the use of the measurement, how it works, and so on. These articles should have been published in the past five years. I realize that some of you may use instruments that are old and possibly outdated. If this is the case, contact me so I can check on the resources before you get working.
